Karla Murtaugh Lead Sponsor of the Run Like a Mother Event

In the vibrant town of Ridgefield, the annual Run Like a Mother race on Mother’s Day morning is more than just a community event or a 5K run—it’s a celebration of mothers and empowerment. This tradition was founded by the trailblazing entrepreneur Megan Searfoss, owner of Ridgefield Running Company, Darien Running Company and the newly acquired Brookfield Running Company. Each year, this event gathers women and families together to run, support each other, and foster a sense of community. I’m proud to be a lead sponsor since the event’s inception in 2008, continuing the tradition of empowering women and promoting wellness in our town.

Our partnership with Run Like a Mother is also a celebration of women’s achievements and empowerment. Megan’s passion for running and community-building resonated with women in Ridgefield and beyond, and the event quickly became a beloved annual tradition. She encourages women of all ages and fitness levels to participate, whether they’re seasoned runners or just starting their fitness journeys. The race is inclusive and welcoming, embodying the spirit of support and encouragement that defines our community.

The 2024 Run Like a Mother race supports the Ridgefield Library’s Noreen L. Papa “Mothers: Live Your Life” Fund. Established at the Ridgefield Library in 2014, the Mothers: Live Your Life fund honors Noreen L. Papa, a Ridgefield mom, and early supporter of the Run Like A Mother 5K who died of colon cancer in 2013. The fund supports Library programs and collections dedicated to women’s health and wellness, specifically to educating mothers to take care of themselves.

It’s a beautiful way to kick off Mother’s Day and celebrate women in our community, and I hope to see you there on May 12th!
